Watford’s 5th game of the season against a very strong Wormley Rovers side didn’t start to plan by going 1-0 down in the first few minutes of the game. From a looping ball over the top Wormley’s striker was able to run onto a loose ball and just about take it round Emily to slot the ball into an empty net. However, it was only a matter of time until Watford turned up the gears and started to dominate the midfield and create chances.
Maya S nicked the ball off Wormley midway in their own half to play Simran through on goal who comfortably placed it to the side of the keeper, to score Watford’s first goal. Not long after that, following a well worked team move the ball fell to the feet of Safiya who smashed it into the back of the net just before the half time whistle blew to make it 2-1.
The 2nd half was mostly played under Watford’s control, they again dominated the ball and created many openings but were just unable to find the finishing touch to many of the chances. From a ball over the top, Simiran was given a ball to chase and she was eventually brought down in the penalty area. A confident Evie stood up to take the penalty but unluckily it hit the post and with the game entering the last few minutes it began to get very tight with Watford still holding a slim lead. In the final moments of the game, a lovely floated corner from Eva was played into the box where captain Evie perfectly met it with her head and the ball flew into the back of the net to seal the win for Watford.
