Two Wath teams entered the qualifiers on Saturday for the South Yorkshire 7s Finals. The Kung Fu Pandas were placed in a difficult pool but managed a hard earned win against Team Zeon (Rotherham Clifton) to gain a place in the Plate quarter final, unfortunately Rotherham Phoenix proved just too strong the Pandas.

Team Amaze Balls were one of the first games at 11am and the fact that everyone arrived at 10.55am was not the ideal start to the day. With the fastest change ever and no warm up the lads took to the pitch against Cresswell Crusaders and ran out 50-7 victors. Next up they faced last years winners Bakewell Mannerians and lost out with a try in the final play. Team amaze-balls other two games were against Dinnington Velociraptors and Thorne Panthers. Both were high scoring games for Wath which meant they qualified for the cup as first runners up. They drew Wheatley Hills A in the quarter finals and came up just short against a strong side. They did however qualify for the finals next week as a wild card.

With pre-season starting next week it was a good warm up for the lads and impressively every player got over the white-wash and two new players put in impressive displays, Ryan Blinkhorn and Callum Faulkner both performing well. Speedster Brett Small and play-maker Joe Bartlett were the top try scorers, and everyone came away with lovely tan's as the sun shone for most of the day. Team-Amaze Balls go into next week with two training sessions under their belt and hopeful of a good showing.

The finals take place at Thorne, more details to follow.
