Battling performance from Town sees us take a point against a strong side

Town travelled to undefeated Wokingham and Emmbrook reserves with it being the last game before lockdown, a first game under the lights for the lads in front of a good crowd of 100 and one they rose to.

Town looked a little nervy in the first 5 minutes with the hosts on top to begin with without creating too much. We soon settled into the game and looked more composed on the ball and created a few half chances of our own..

In a game of few chances we had a great chance to go ahead when Chris Witchel burst forward latching onto a flick on and found himself baring down on goal, his effort smashed into the side netting..

Wokingham had more of the ball for the half but their final ball was letting them down, the back 3 of Jon Little, Dom Selwood and Ben O’Connor sweeping up any danger..

The return of Ben Little standing in goal tonight proved key to Town, a calming influence and good hands whenever called upon. Ben pulled out a few great saves when Wokingham did get shots off, one tipped round the post and another over the bar.

Town could have nicked the points when a Chris Witchel free kick was dropped by the keeper with Alex B’Layachi following in only to hit his effort straight back at the keeper from a few yards out..

The hosts had a long range effort come back off the crossbar late on when Town were reduced to 10 men for a Brandon Burton sin bin. The lads dug in and worked hard to see that tough spell through until Brandon re-entered the play.

A few niggly fouls slowed the game near the end with a few bookings being dished out by the ref, the tempo for both sides had gone and the game ended all square.

Full Time 0-0..

MOM - Ben Little

As manager this was one of the most pleasing performances of the season despite not getting the win, keeping a clean sheet and having arguably the better chances against a strong young side really shows how well the lads have stepped up to this level.

This was a real team effort from all 14 that were involved on the night and shows the team spirit and togetherness in this group to dig in and fight for each other..

Going into lockdown on 7pts from a possible 12 having played 3 of the top 4 sides as it stands and sitting 5th in the league is a welcome start and one the lads should be proud of, hopefully we get back to playing again soon.
