Town see off Chinnor comeback to come away with 3 points

With the return of football after lockdown 2, Town looked to pick up from where they left off with the lads really starting to gel and putting in solid performances.
The game was switched to Chinnor and we thank them for this due to a fixture mix up therefore allowing our ressies to still get their game on as scheduled.

We travelled with a strong squad and started brightly and could have been 3 up within the first 10 minutes with 2 great chances for Adam Holloway who with the help of a bobble failed to test the keeper and Kevin Hudson hitting the post from close range..

Town took the lead after 20 minutes when Martin Williams drove forward, played a one two with Adam Holloway, cut back onto his left and his shot from the edge of the box taking a deflection to loop over the outstretched keeper. 0-1..

Chinnor grew into the game for the remainder of the half as Town had dropped off from the fast start they had made as we struggled to get any rhythm going on a heavy pitch. With few chances being created for either side the half time whistle blew..

Half time 0-1..

With a change of shape for the 2nd half saw Curtis Lockyer come on to replace Ash Dixon.

Town started the half the stronger and found themselves 0-2 when Adam Holloway was tripped in the box after latching onto a Kev Hudson crossfield through ball, despite keeping his footing and finishing anyway the ref had already blown his whistle for the penalty, Adam calmly stepped up and dispatched into the bottom corner. 0-2.

Chris Swales then came on for Martin Williams.

Chinnor were getting some more joy on the ball but failing to create much with it and were hit on the break with Chris Witchel and Adam Holloway linking up down the left and the latter calmly finishing for his brace to extend Towns lead.. 0-3..

It should have been 4 when Curtis Lockyer latched onto a loose ball and having rounded the keeper managed to miss the open target and firing his effort wide. One he won’t want to remember!

Town made a couple more changes with Jack Sear and Jack Sears entering the game.

I don’t know if we became complacent thinking the game was won or more credit should go to our hosts as they put us under pressure, with 20 minutes to play Chinnor started to throw numbers forward and getting on top. They got their reward with some good play down the left and a ball played into the striker who found himself free in the box was tucked home.. 1-3..

Chinnor then got a second 10 minutes later with a cross come shot looping over Ben Little into the far top corner.. 2-3..

Town were then reduced to 10 men with Jon Little getting sin binned.

The momentum was now with Chinnor and panic set about the Town ranks, we needed to settle down and take the sting out of the game as Chinnor were desperately pushing for a leveller, they had their chance with 10 minutes to play with an effort from close range narrowly going wide of the post.. A few corners and free kicks came in from Chinnor but the Town rearguard threw their bodies on the line with Darren Outten making a last ditch tackle to prevent a good goal scoring opportunity..

Town made a final change with Owen Wood entering play and he soon made the difference, as Chinnor pushed forward more and more they left space for Town on the break, Owen got hold of a loose ball just inside the Chinnor half, took one touch then from 45 yards saw the keeper well of his line and lobbed it into an empty net sending the Town lads and bench into wild celebrations.. 2-4..

The ref then decided to send off Jon Little from the side who was serving a sin bin at the time and one of the Chinnor management both for foul language, bit harsh on both counts, it was a tense local derby played in the right spirit and a shame it ended with this..

The last few minutes Chinnor continued to push forward but failed to capitalise and the game ended 2-4..

Full time 2-4

MOM - Adam Holloway

Town came up against a spirited Chinnor side who fight for everything which is what we expected, having dominated the early part of the game and having been 3 nil up we really should have had the game dead and buried.. Chinnor made it nervy and pushed us to the end pulling it back to 2-3 but we dug deep, worked hard and saw the game over the line for an important 3 points against a tough opposition who make you work for a win and won’t roll over..

Next week we welcome Penn and Tyler’s development at home. 2pm KO
