It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of a Watlington CC hero

As some of you will know last week we lost one of Watlington Cricket Club’s real true greats. Eddie Allen passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening aged 83 years.

Eddie had been a major part of Watlington Cricket Club for over 60 years. In his prime, Eddie was a fast right arm bowler, who could make the ball ‘dance’ in the air and off the seam. A right-hand bowler but a left-handed batsman who made batting look easy. Eddie served the club in pretty much every position, Captain, committee man and finally Chairman.

Although he finally retired from playing it was difficult to keep Eddie away from cricket, he represented the club as one of the top Umpire’s in the OCA. Eddie also spent an amazing amount of his time keeping the ground looking in great condition.

So it is with a heavy heart Watlington Cricket Club say goodbye, but Eddie still lives on with us with Chris.

Eddie’s funeral will take place on Thursday 22nd November, with a service at 1.30pm at St Leonard’s Church, Watlington and then at Amersham Crematorium 2.45pm, all are welcome to follow the family to Amersham. Everyone is invited to gather at Watlington Sports Pavilion to celebrate Eddie’s life following the funeral.

The family are very happy for mourners to not wear black and wear something colourful if desired. Cards can be sent to Sylvia Allen, 11 Love Lane, Watlington. OX49 5RA. Family flowers only. Donations can be made to MHA Brookfield’s Care Home or The Alzheimer’s Society.
