We get up to speed with our Performance and Fitness Coach Tony Phillips.

What is your rugby story? (How did you get started, clubs, position)

I started to play rugby at an early age for the school and I would ride on my push bike to RAF Watton and I would train with the adults , later on in life again I returned back to Watton as a number 9  , I was first team coach , fitness coach and helped with the training of the youth players who now are playing adult rugby at the club. I have also played for the Prison service an attended the all prison rugby finals at Coventry.

Outside of Rugby, what do you do?

Outside rugby I am a Prison Manager at HMP/YOI Norwich and a Professional Tattoo artist.

How would you describe Watton RFC?

I would describe Watton rugby club as up and coming club, with a family atmosphere, well organized, welcoming to new players, and   where players are really enjoying their rugby and who are desperate for the season to start with great ambitions of promotion.

What is it that you're most looking forward to when we start the season?

I am really looking forward to see how coaching has helped all the players pre-season as there is a great vibe around training and we look forward to players playing hard and fast for 80 minutes and a big win for the red and black army.

What would be your dream after match 3 course meal?

Anything on Carols menu I must agree with Des, Carol is amazing as well as is her after game lunches.

What are your must watch, read and listen recommendations?

My best read is Eddy Jones autobiography, and I would say to all players to watch Colin McGregor’s motivational film about his journey in UFC, and his fitness regime, truly remarkable.

What advice would you give to new and / or returning players?

My advice to new and returning players is come down and see what is offered now! we truly have a great coaching team, club captains, motivated committee members, club photographer and club physio, you will love the experience of being involved with a group of players who will welcoming and who will support and motivate others.

What are your favourite Rugby moments? (International or club)

I have to say any time England gets beaten by the welsh lol, and club, has to be some of the best rugby tours I have been on, for those who were not there you really missed out!

Where would you love to go on tour?

It has to South Africa they are rugby mad, having been there a truly remarkable place.

Lastly, and most importantly, what is your tipple of choice?

It has to be a good wheat beer -blue moon just to name one .
