Bin there, done that.

Despite some heavy showers during the week, some hints of sunshine were poking through on Sunday morning, and so the Mighty Wave travelled to Binsted, a fixture resurrected after a number of years. Turning out for the Wave were Chris Beanland (Beanie), Jamie Harris (Teabag), Marcus Carmichael (MC), Simon Brewer (KV), Andy du Gay (Daddy Doogs), Matt du Gay (Doogs), Sam Tempest (Troy), Adam Carmichael (AC), Peter Brewer (Mr B), Toby Elborough (Stokesy) and Will Knox (Ewok).

Doogs rather surprisingly won the toss, and elected to bat first in this 35 over match. Opening up the batting for the Wave was the "Beanbag Experience" of Beanie and Teabag. A combination of a slow track, slow outfield and some accurate bowling saw the pair struggle to score quickly in the early goings. But both were being defensively resolute in the opening exchanges, with some nice scoring shots thrown in for good measure. The home side finally made the breakthrough when Beanie was bowled for 6. MC joined teabag in the middle, knowing that the visitors would need to improve the run rate to post a decent total. He chipped in with a couple of lusty blows, before falling to one which didn't get up for 9. Teabag was the next man to fall, for a well made 20 in difficult batting conditions. KV and Daddy Doogs were the new pair in the middle, and some big shots from KV looked to keep things moving along for the visitors. When he was adjudged to have feathered one through to the keeper for 16, the visitors were looking like they would post a more defendable total. Doogs joined Daddy Doogs in the middle and clipped his first ball for 4 through the off side. However, he soon tried to repeat the trick and was bowled by another one which didn't get up. Despite a dodgy knee (which he hardly mentioned) Daddy Doogs was adding some vital runs to the total. Troy came and went for 1, snicking one through to the keeper. Promoted up the order to number 8 was AC, who repaid the skipper's confidence with some lovely shots and vital middle order runs. When Daddy Doogs was bowled for 21, Mr B joined AC in the middle, with the pair looking to push the visitors score past the hundred mark. They did so well, despite Mr B turning down a second run on the last ball of the innings, and the Wave finished on 110-7 off their 35 overs, AC and Mr B not out on 13 and 5 respectively.

After a fantastically good value tea Stokesy and Ewoklooked to take some early wickets and restrict the home side's scoring. Knowing the pitch was slow and sitting up, keeping the ball full was the best approach. As such, the first wicket came from a rank half tracker, Ewok digging it in short and using the slow loop to trap Krempel LBW. Stokesy got in on the act too, clean bowling Sage - both openers removed without scoring. Will continued to make use of the "slower ball bouncer" and picked up another two wickets in quick succession, bowling both King and Wakefield. Stokesy didn't want to get left behind, and soon got another wicket himself. With the home side on the ropes, Doogs looked to shuffle his pack and introduced Mr B for Stokesy. Ewok picked up another wicket shortly after, Troy holding on to a catch at mid off. With Ewok in with a chance of a 5 wicket haul, thoughts turned to the possible sight of jugs after the game. However, he was unable to pick one up, ending with 4 wickets from his 7 overs. The home side were mounting a bit of a counter attack at this point, with Brooks and Dineen scoring some runs to push the total closer to Waverley's first innings score. The visitors made one break through, Mr B rewarded for some patient bowling, by bowling Dineen. There was little respite though, as Stephens also looked to continue the good scoring rate of the home side. However, Mr B soon put another dent in the hopes of a comeback, picking up another wicket by bowling Stephens. Any lingering hopes of a victory for Binsted were soon ended though, with specialist enforcer AC coming on to clean up the final 2 wickets in just 5 balls to steer the mighty Wave home for the win.

The post match awards saw Mr B claim the wAnchor hat, for failing to run a second off the last ball of the innings - thinking there was another over to come. The Pink T-Shirt went to Beanie for complaining about the weather, and asking to borrow Stokesy's jumper between overs. Ewok picked up the man of the match hat for his 4 wicket haul. All in all, a good performance from the Wave and another win!
