Waverley fail to beat the weather...

A window of opportunity opened in some thoroughly miserable weather to at least allow Waverley to start Sunday's game (and second of the season) against Medstead. Looking to avenge the early-season hammering were James Wright ("Mongo"), Simon Knox ("Chewy"), Chris Beanland ("Beanie"), Matt Du Gay ("Doogs"), Andy Du Gay ("Daddy Doogs"), Kyle Moxham ("Kylo Ren"), Will Knox ("Captain Canoodler"), Sam Tempest ("Troy"), Toby Elborough ("Stokesy"), Matt Pride ("Pride of Waverley") and Adam Carmichael ("AC").

After unexpectedly winning the toss, Doogs wasted no time in electing to bowl first on a pudding of a pitch. With the sun beating down, Stokesy and Troy spear-headed the Waverley attack and not even a six off the first ball of the innings dampened Waverley's spirits. Waverley's grumpy quicks soon recovered and started to put the host under pressure, with Troy getting the early breakthrough courtesy of a catch to the skipper. A combination of a slow pitch and accurate bowling restricted the Medstead run-rate and Troy was soon rewarded with a second wicket, the dangerous Rawlings popping a catch into the hands of Daddy Doogs at short-cover. Troy followed this up with wickets in successive overs, Bembridge edging through to Mongo without scoring and E Pate bowled all ends up. With the hosts struggling at 48-4, Doogs shuffled his pack with Kylo and AC looking to make further inroads. It took Kylo only two overs to claim Waverley's fifth wicket, holding a steepling catch off his own bowling to dismiss T Pate. His second wicket of the day followed soon after, Pearce bowled after the ball trickled back onto the stumps.

AC's spell was generating chances and he was eventually rewarded with a wicket, Doogs clinging on to a second catch at mid-on. With the weather starting to close in, further changes were made to the bowling attack which saw a cameo from Pridey and wickets for Captain Canoodler, who bowled Cooper and saw Fry caught on the run by AC. With one wicket needed and the rain now persistent, Troy was brought back into the attack in search of his fifth wicket. After bowling two maidens, he had Denton caught at slip by Chewy to leave Medstead all out for 115.

Unfortunately, that was the end of the day's action. Despite taking a leisurely tea the rain failed to abate and the captains eventually took the decision to abandon the game, Waverley not having a chance to commence their reply.

So it was all back to the pub, where Troy was awarded the Man of the Match Hat for his five wicket haul. The *Anchor Hat went to Captain Canoodler, after boldly stating that as someone else was going to win the Pink T-shirt he could canoodle all he wanted. Doogs self-awarded the Pink T-shirt for an extremely suspect piece of fielding in the covers (hanging out a leg, turning away and hopping up in the air). This left the players with plenty of time to contemplate the days events and Doogs plenty of time to contemplate his imminent appearance before the Hat Committee on trumped up charges...
