Close, but no cigar for Waverley...

Batting first Waverley pushed the score along at 6 an over but found it difficult to score off Sumner who had already accounted for both the visitor's openers. Simon Brewer then opened his shoulders for his 47 in a partnership of 72 with Chris Beanland. However, it was left to Russ Golding to steady the ship and with a final partnership with Sam Tempest Waverley managed to post a fairly healthy 242. Oakley found it tough going against Malorie Short and Toby Elborough but once Jones had joined Brundle the score picked up; however, the home side were still behind the required run rate. After these two were dismissed the side decided that the only way to win this was the long handle. This worked and although 16 year old Harry McGuigan bowled well in his first senior match to pick up 4 wickets, it was not enough to stop Oakley passing Waverley’s total in a tense and exciting game.
