Put into bat, the visitors soon lost Chris Beanland to Eales. This brought Ian Verrinder into bat with Jamie Harris, a new partnership as it was Verrinder’s first game for Waverley in 5 years and these two put on 105 for the second wicket. A change of bowling brought on Ollie Ayling, who bowled miserly as well as snaffling Verrinder and Simon Brewer. Adrian Day managed 34, then Sam Tempest and Scott Upward added 31 before the declaration.
After tea, Robertson and Churchely scored freely until Harry McGuigan had Robertson caught and Peter Brewer had Churchely stumped off a wide. Ollie Ayling and Pat Murphy continued the good work and Waverley looked beaten. A bowling change saw Jamie Harris grab two wickets and McGuigan then ran through Abinger, leaving the home side teetering on 187-9 at the start of the last over which they completed without loss. An excellent game of cricket.
