Wealdstone u9 Blues came out on top at this years Hanwell tournament. This was the first competitive tournament we have played in and what a difference that seemed to make.
Every single boy from the off were up for it and played as we know they can and as a team.
We took 2 teams with us and unfortunately we were placed in the same group. Both teams went unbeaten through the group stages playing Hanwell Town, Hayes & Yeading, Old Actonians and Celtic, when unfortunately a game before semi final stage we had to play each other and being a knock out competition their had to be a winner. A very close and exciting game saw it end 1-0. The losing boys shrugged of their disappointment and cheered on the others.
A frustrating semi final where the ball just didn't seem to want to go in despite some excellent play was decided by a bit of a goal scramble and an own goal saw us through.
The final saw us against Hanwell Town that was a 0-0 in the group stage. Another exciting game but another 0-0 at full time meant penalties, a new experience for the boys in a pressure situation. Understandably all the boys were nervous but Mason, Harvey and Lewis T all put their hand up to take one. Mason stood up first and put it away beautifully to the bottom left corner, next up were Hanwell and a great save from Harvey put us in front, next up was Harvey who saw the Hanwell keeper save well, Harvey back between the sticks saved again! Final penalty and up stood Lewis T, I was a bit worried as he had run himself into the ground in the semi final and a further game on looked very tired on his legs. Needn't have worried as he stepped up and finished it with power to the right of the goal and sparked of the celebrations!
A big thank you to Louis and Ricky from the Whites who played for us today and well done to all the boys, Harvey, Sidney, Oliver, Mason, Lewis T, Tyrai, Harry D, Tajuan, Jamie, James, Danny and Kacey. You all done yourselves proud with excellent attitude, effort and determination.
