Need 2 excellent finishes to beat a strong keeper

The weather meant this game was moved to the astro-turf at Middlesex Stadium. That provided some challenges with the pace of the pitch and needing a good first touch to control the ball. Wealdstone started off a bit slowly, but were well organised and kept Ruislip Rangers to long shots, which Harrison handled well and kept them out. The best chance in the first quarter fell to Toby who managed get his shot away, but just missed the near post. 2nd quarter and Wealdstone began to dominate as we expected. Some strong runs down the right and left created a few chances, and following one corner Oscar played in a beautiful cross for Adam to arrive between 2 defenders and powerfully head the ball past the goalkeeper, a deserved lead for Wealdstone u9 Whites. They nearly repeated the double-act soon after from a corner, but Adams header just flew wide. However the lead didn't last long, some sloppy defending gave the ball away and needed a great save from Harrison, but we didn't manage to clear the area and Ruislip Rangers bundled the ball into the goal, 1-1. Second half and Wealdstone continued to dominate, but their goalkeeper was in good form, stopping a number of long shots and rushing off his line quickly to grab the ball every time it came into his area. Chances came and went with Wealdstone dominating the play and hitting the bar and flashing the ball across the goal. At 1-1 the occasional break for Ruislip Rangers spelt danger and needed Toby, Thomas and George to be strong at the back and when they got past them, James was quick off his line to smoother chances and make good saves. And then with 5 minutes to go, a strong tackle in midfield and the ball fell to Harrison, he took a touch and buried it past the goalkeeper, a thoroughly deserved lead for Wealdstone u9 Whites. Professionally closing the game out, Wealdstone left with a well deserved 2-1 win. A strong team performance all round, with Man of the Match going to Harrison.
