An 8 wicket victory over Helensburgh sealed promotion to the top flight. There is one game remaining in the season but the percentage gap over 3rd placed Ayr is too big to be bridged.
Inserted on a damp wicket Helensburgh struggled to get going and were 54 for 5 with Azeem Akbar and Mo Ali each taking two wickets. But then the roof fell in on the visitors as their last 5 wickets fell with no runs being added. Sameer Zia finished with remarkable figures of 4 for 0 for Weirs.
Weirs made fairly short work of the chase, Rouman Butt smashing a quick 37 as Weirs made it to 55 for 2 in just over 11 overs. The victory mathematically sealed 2nd place in WDCU First Division for Weirs.
Weirs will finish off their season next Saturday with a home game against St Michaels.
The 2nd XI game against Victoria was cancelled due to an unfit pitch at Bellahouston. The 2nd XI finish their season in a very commendable 3rd place and as the top placed 2nd XI in the division.
