Week 9 and Boro met Peterborough

Wellingborough welcomed Peterborough to Cut Throat Lane in this weeks league game. In the second row youthful Andy Fordham started, in the back line Ryan Mackie moved into the 10 shirt with Pete Vickers moving across to inside centre, on the wing Nathan Gardiner replaced Eddie Johnson who stepped down to the bench. The bench also saw the welcome return of Adam Fuller.

1st Half
Peterborough kicked off and it was Boro who had early possession of the ball but couldn't make any progress, when Peterborough had the ball Boro met them with some strong defence. Peterborough soon constructed another attack and it took and intercept by Chris Shipman to thwart the attack, this was followed by a long kick down the pitch which Connor Gordon and Andy Seaton chased after winning a penalty which was unfortunately pushed wide by Pete Vickers. Peterborough answered back with an attack of their own and it took a chasing back Andy Fordham to make the tackle, however Peterborough were rewarded with a penalty but couldn't take advantage, however it wasn't long before the opening score came and it was Peterborough who took the lead through a try out wide in the corner (Boro 0v5 P'boro).

Peterborough kept attacking Boro and whilst the defensive scramble was good there were too many holes in the defensive line allowing Peterborough players through. A good kick from Ryan Mackie and pressure from the backs went unrewarded as a penalty was conceded but a scrum saw Boro win a penalty themselves which was converted by Pete Vickers (Boro 3v5 P'boro). However, the two point gap was extended as another defensive error saw Peterborough score another try (Boro 3v10 P'boro). Boro needed to get back into the game and with half time in sight a well constructed attack saw Boro move into the Peterborough 22, a long floated pass by Matt Ellson was collected by Kieran Checkley who scored in the corner, a tough conversion was missed bringing Boro back to within 2 points (Boro 8v10 P'boro).

Wellingborough 8 v 10 Peterborough

2nd Half
The second half started with Boro on the back foot and trying to get out of their own half, however, some strong play form Ben Morton-Bright and Ryan Mackie saw Boro construct an attack but a turnover from Peterborough saw them on the attack. Errors from both sides saw the half become quite scrappy, a strong defence from Peterborough seemed to suffocate any Boro attacks. Inevitably it was Peterborough who got the next score, this time it was a blindside move that led to Peterborough extending their lead with a try (Boro 8v15 P'Boro). As the half progressed it was Peterborough who took advantage of a tiring Boro team with another try after a penalty (Boro 8v20 P'Boro) and then a final try after an intercept (Boro 8v27 P'Boro). The final moments saw good attack by Chris Shipman, Shaun Mackie and Harry Bryan but a silly penalty saw Peterborough close out the game.

FT Score
Wellingborough 8 v 27 Peterborough

A poor performance this week in both attack and defence saw Peterborough come away with the spoils, next week sees a chance for the team to recharge its batteries and for a few of the injured players to make a recovery.
