Colts exit the Referees Cup

Peterborough Colts arrived at Cut Throat Lane on a bright but windy day as both sides took to the pitch. After a slow start both sides then entered into a full bloodied cup tie that was only missing one thing! Tries! The game ebbed and flowed and both sides had opportunities to score but defence was king at vital moments. With 10 minutes to go it was still nil all when Wellingborough were awarded a penalty. The kick from Lewis Aitkin didnt quite have the desired result but unfortunately for the Peterborough player stood on his own try line he knocked on giving Wellingborough a five metre scrum from which Aitkin made amends with Harry Shipman adding the extras. Wellingborough then defended like their lives depended on it, thwarting several attacks and holding Peterborough up over the line on two occasions, until, with the last play of the game Peterborough went over and converted to even the game up at 7-7. Peterborough advanced to the semi finals courtesy of being the away team. The Boro Colts were gutted but as the coaches pointed out the performance was outstanding. There were good performances from Dom Shaw, Lewis Seabrook, Dom Meylan Stevenson, Steven Thorneycroft, but the man of the match was between James Batten, Mason Roberts and Jake Green. The Ock n Dough Man award eventually going to Jake for quite simply a barnstorming performance that a few years ago wouldnt have happened, well done Jake and the whole team.
