Late equaliser feels like a defeat
On a blustery afternoon in Herefordshire,Wellington went into the game looking for 3pts to get their new year going .What transpired was a frustrating result ,conceding a 95th minute equaliser.
The game started well for Wellington,having lots of possession,creating chances ,but nothing clear cut . Then in the 35th minute a corner for Wellington was crossed in to the area ,a header towards goal was blocked by a defenders hand ,and the Referee blew for a penalty. Paul Jones stepped up to calmly score to give the home side a deserved lead,which they took into Half Time .
The 2nd half was slightly different in possession as now Bridgnorth began to have an equal share of the game . From a corner in the 52nd minute ,Wellington failed to deal with ,Bridgnorth managed to force Home an equaliser. Wellington produced a great response 3minutes later ,when a great through ball by Will Perkins found James Hancock who latched on to the ball ,drew out the keeper to fire the ball home . The visitors didn’t let their heads drop and continued to look dangerous going forward ,and in the 70th minute a free kick into the area ,wasn’t cleared ,and a cross back into the area resulted in a looping header going over Matts head and dropping into the far corner . The final 20 minutes were open with chances at both ends. And just as it looked like the scoring was finished WellingtonFC broke down the left wing ,the ball was played into the area to Brendan Hackett who had just returned from a broken leg ,and he struck the ball towards the goal,and the visiting keeper made a good stop,but only parried the ball in the air.It broke to Luke Griffiths in the area ,he controlled the ball and smashed it into the net off the far post . That looked like the winner ,but after Wellington had a 4th goal disallowed harshly for handball in the 94th minute ,Bridgnorth went up the other end and a ball into the box was headed on to another Bridgnorth player to head home from close range to make it 3-3 . Wellington kicked off ,and the Ref immediately blew for full time . Frustrating draw for the Home team,that felt like a defeat .
