Welwyn Rugby Club – October Update

In Memory of Malcolm Tucker
The club said a fond farewell to Malcolm Tucker, who passed away peacefully this September at the age of 82.
Malcolm was a much-loved member of the Welwyn Rugby Club community, a former player, Club Secretary, President (2010–2014), and a dedicated volunteer. His commitment to the club and his unwavering support over the years left a lasting impact. He is deeply missed, and our heartfelt thoughts are with his family and friends.
We’re certain Malcolm would be proud of all the club has achieved and all that’s still to come.

As we begin what promises to be another exciting season, we’d like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who helps keep the club running. The impact of your efforts is felt in every successful matchday, every training session, and every smiling face around the clubhouse.
We are truly grateful to all our volunteers whether you’re sweeping out the changing rooms, picking up a lost gumshield, or serving food to a crowd of hungry players – your contributions are valued and essential.

New volunteers are always welcome there’s a place for everyone at Welwyn, and every bit of help makes a difference.

Women’s Rugby World Cup – A Day to Remember
We had a fantastic day at Allianz, Twickenham supporting England, women’s rugby, and Welwyn Rugby Club! 48 members travelled down by coach – thanks to Jonathan for organising – and many more joined by train and car. A truly special day for all involved.

A huge well done to Zoe Harrison, Hannah Botterman, and Helena Rowland. We are immensely proud of your achievements and hope you remember your time at Welwyn with fondness. Our thriving Mini/Junior/Girls sections continue to develop talent at all levels – something we can all be proud of.

• Saracens ACE Programme:

(well done all!)

If you know anyone who might be interested in picking up a rugby ball and having some fun, encourage them to come down on a Sunday and give it a go!

Welwyn Women – Top of the League!

With two strong league wins – 58-7 against Battersea Ironsides and 42-5 against East London Vixens – Welwyn Women sit at the top of the table. It's early days, but what a fantastic start!

Men’s 1st XV – Strong Start
The Men’s 1st XV kicked off their season away at Eton Manor under very challenging, windy conditions. Despite that, the team played expansive, attacking rugby and battled hard in the contact areas.
Special mention to Jake Riley for a superb solo try – breaking three tackles and powering over from the 10-metre line!
? Next match:
Home vs. Hitchin – Saturday 11th October, 3PM KO
Come down and show your support!
