With wins for the women against visitors Deeping & for the U13 & U15 girls hosting our friends from OAs, it was a good Sunday afternoon at Hobbs Way

The women hosted Deeping with an aim of reversing a surprise loss against the visitors earlier in the season. They did this in a comprehensive manner coming away with an 85-0 win despite the game finishing early due to several injuries for the guests. It was a dominant display by the Welwyn women yet it is a credit to Deeping that they never gave up and continued battling. With 13 tries for Welwyn, the plaudits go to the whole team for their performance but with 4 tries for Abbie Picking and 3 each for Catherine Cirkel and Hannah Lloyd it was a particularly good day for them.

With the U18 girls due to play OAs in a cup game next Sunday, just the U13s and 15s played them at home this weekend. As usual with our friendly rivals OAs, the games were tight affairs yet played in the right spirit. Welwyn came away with two wins on the day.

With the U13s, OAs made a good start, scoring a couple of early tries before Welwyn found their groove and edged ahead. A great improvement in Welwyn’s defence kept the pressure on OAs but strong running kept the away side in touch until the final quarter, Welwyn securing the win with a couple of late points. Outstanding support play and great hands were reflected in 7 different Welwyn players scoring tries. A really entertaining game with some good rugby from both teams.

For the U15s, this was the toughest test they've faced all season. Again the girls went behind not long after the kick off and it took them most of the half to find their rhythm and confidence. OAs also used the advantage of the strong wind with lots of kicking. After half time with the wind on their side Welwyn took control and built a comfortable lead despite a strong fight from OAs in the final 5 minutes. Well done girls.

Although not having a match this week, the U11 girls trained and had a good session including two girls from OAs joining in to give them some further experience of playing with others at their own age group.
