The under 8s took part in the Charles Morris cup competition at Datchworth RFC on Sunday. The sunshine took the edge of the chilliness which was especially well received by the parents on the touchline. A whopping 18 under 8s turned out which was enough for 3 teams with no subs so everyone got plenty of pitch time. The first round of matches counted towards the trophy. It took a while for the kids to get going and with Riaan's team just getting squeezed out by one try and Chris' team also losing by one, it fell to Alex's team to bring home the bacon with a draw. In round two, Riaan's team rose like a phoenix from the ashes to win 6-2. Alex's team did very well against arguably Datchworth's strongest side losing 8-6 and Chris' team put up a decent fight but lost 8-5. It could have been the sudden appearance of planes in the sky which distracted the lads during this match as they are not used to such wonders while playing at home. In round 3, Riaan's team again showed their might by winning 12-5, Alex's team narrowly lost 7-6 and Chris' team showing fatigue by now and facing the strongest Datchworth side lost 9-4 although the highlight of this match must surely have been Taylor managing to shed both tags with a burst of electrifying pace. Sadly the ref spotted this and brought play back.
