Now at the start of autumn, the 2025 junior season is receding into the mists of time and we reflect on another fantastic year of achievements for our young players.
Way back in January, we got back into the swing of things with indoor training spread across sports halls in Wendover, Aylesbury and Princes Risborough. Our intrepid Under 15 squad changed halls following a sprinkler incident (nothing to do with us!) at their original base, and our Under 11/12/13 groups engaged in a competitive indoor league with teams named after their favourite England stars.
Once we got outdoors after Easter, the weather was unusually kind to us for most of the summer season. As the whole club awaits the construction of the new main ground on Tring Road, the juniors squeezed as much training time as possible out of the Witchell on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, and again our Under 15s trained off-site. Older groups had a further taste of the senior teams’ nomadic life with “home” matches in Aylesbury, Marsh and Little Missenden.
Across the entire range of ages an astonishing 140 players took part across the season, playing more than 120 league matches plus other friendlies.
Congratulations go to our Under 10s (henceforth known as “the invincibles”!) and Under 17s for winning their respective leagues against serious opposition. In a strong year across the board we had a number of other second place finishes in other leagues. A huge number of players made excellent strides this year and achieved new heights with their cricket, and should be incredibly proud.
None of the above could take place without the significant commitment of our network of volunteer coaches, managers, umpires, scorers and the backup of the club committee including safeguarding officers - thank you all. Also to the parents of our junior members whose efforts to get dozens of young cricketers to where they need to be several times a week are simply quite extraordinary - thank you too!
Plans are already in place to do it all again next year, a little older and perhaps wiser all round!
