2. Life Members

Over the years the club has paid an honour to certain members of the club for what they have done for the club. Sadley some have now past us by but those who remain are as follows.

Peter was a founder member of the club in 1968.He was at the time Deputy Headmaster at The Wensleydale County Modern School. A keen rugby man Peter arranged for the use of the school changing rooms on match days. Peter attended the 40th dinner and now lives at Kirby Stephen but still follows rugby at kendale and for his sins Upper Eden.

Jim like Peter was a teacher at the school and a keen rugby man. Jim was the then PE teacher and the school had rugby as the main sport.Jim was a founder member and the minutes of the Inaugural meeting stated that the club was to be left in the hands of J Hawkins Esq.So it remained as Jim was the back bone of the club at that time.
Jim moved on to Risedale School with Peter Davy. Jim like Peter attended the 40th dinner.

Peter came like many others to the club through the school.Peter was 1XV Captain and in later years Clubhouse Manager.
Peter played in the Silver Trophy winning team. Peter along with many others worked on the club unpaid building walls and without the likes of Peter and others the clubhouse would not have been built.Although Peter has not been to the club for sometime the gratitude to him and other like him should never be lost.

Derek was introduced to Wensleydale through Frank Cawkill although Derek has a strong rugby background.
The main room at Morley(Leeds)is named the Bradley room after his father.
Derek helped the club off the field as treasurer for a good number of years. This was in the years when the clubhouse was being built and he did a lot of work behind the scenes to secure the funding for the development. The family tradition of rugby has gone on with Richard his son being 1st XV Captain along with his son inlaw Tony Lawson and in recent years Tom Lawson his Grandson coming into th 1stXV.Derek also attended the 40th dinner.

Again Willy was from the Wensleydale School and for many years Willy was team Secretary with the job of carding (no emails or text in those days). The club had 3 senior teams and all players got a card telling when and where to meet and which team to play for.
When playing got past him he ran the bar and also arranged Country and Western Evenings for club funds.
Willy still attends the club.

Paul came to the Club from Risedale School through Jim Hawkins. Paul was very keen and a back row player. In the good old days he was in the back row of Orton Dobbing and Hammell. Paul often surpassed them on the field but at drinking he was not in their league.Paul played for many years untill 2007.A keener rugby and club man you could not find.

Again came from school rugby and held a good number of club roles , captain and fixture secretary. David was Club Secretary from May 1981 untill April 1999 when work and other duties placed upon him saw him retire from the club. In those 18 years as Secretary he helped with the development of the clubhouse acting as the designer. Also the purchase of the additional land and also saw in league rugby and 3 senior teams at the club. David made a return to the club in 2007 helping to arrange the 40th dinner along with Bob Dixon. David is now Vice Chairman of the club.
