Wessex blades newly formed team played there first match against a familiarly strong Fitz on Tuesday. The match started well for both teams with the ball moving from end to end is quick succession. With some particularly accurate shooting from Fitz they took an early lead of 7-4 after the first quarter. Blades pushed on and demonstrated some fantastic ball control and strong passages of play which kept them in the game. In particular the C and WA merged beautifully to provide countless feeds into the D. A confident performance from GA kept the scoreboard tight. Blades dominated early play in the third quarter with their defence limiting Fitz movement and ability to feed their shooters. Blades strength in the circle was rewarded by a string of fantastic goals, many from far out. The fourth quarter saw blades tire and Fitz take more control. Their long balls and competent shooting proved difficult for blades to challenge at times. The blades team finished strong with the 40-16 score line not reflecting the tight match it was. The new blades team look forward to what is sure to be an exciting and successful season together.
