24 February 2016
A cold February evening saw Wessex Blades take on Jets. Starting team for the evening included Bex Fry (GS), Amy Chalmers (GA), Louise Andrews (WA), Poppy Spratt (C), Amelia Suter (WD), Danni Saint (GD) and Claire Gorwil (GK).
Blades started off well with some quick manoeuvring and positioning from Amy and Bex. Poppy delivered some excellent balls into the shooting circle, keeping to score close. 7-10 to Jets after the first quarter.
The second quarter saw Amelia make numerous flying interceptions as WD. Claire and Danni in the defensive circle communicated well as Claire posed a challenge for the opposition. With excellent rebounds Blades were able to move the ball down the court well. Jets shooting improved from the first quarter. Score at half time, 13-24 Jets.
The third quarter saw an unfortunate injury to Jets, meaning they were forced to play with 6 players. Despite this, Jets maintained their lead and scored 8 goals to Blades’ 6. Score after the third quarter, Jets lead 32 -19.
At 9:50pm the game was still going. Bex as GA made some brilliant long distance shots with Amy as GS equally as impressive. Amelia as WD provided invaluable support to the attacking third. Despite having 6 players, Jets maintained their lead and won the match 41-28.
Congratulations to Amelia who was Blades player of the match.
