Hallowe'en Fun at U8's Presentation Night

On Saturday, the Bears U8's brought the season to an end with a Hallowe'en themed fancy dress Presentation Night. A fitting finale to what has been a hugely successful year in which 21 young lads have impressed and improved throughout a long season consisting of 40 fixtures.

The highlight for the team was without doubt the summer period, when they attended 5 festivals, with the group going unbeaten at 4 of those festivals and in total winning 12 games from 14.

Every player contributed throughout the year and all received a trophy on the night presented by Widnes Vikings stars Kevin Brown and Danny Tickle.

Special certificates for the season went to Kian McGann, as top try scorer, scoring a phenomenal 77 tries in 34 games, with Michael Lawton picking up the 'appearance' certificate after playing every game in the season, 38 from 38.

The main trophies on the night were awarded from parents votes, with Evan Milne picking up the 'Nicola Lawrenson Memorial Trophy' as 'Clubman'. Tyler McGann was chosen as the most improved player and was given the 'Development' Award.

Rueben Mafi, for his selfless attitude as well as strong performances, was picked as the 'Team Player, with Oliver Stankevitch given the 'Work Rate' award for his constant effort in both attack and defence in every game.

The final 3 awards went to Michael Lawton, Kian McGann and Josh Swindley.

Michael Lawton who had an outstanding season in defence, won the Top Tackler trophy, beating the second placed nominee by over 150 tackles.

Kian McGann was voted by the parents as 'Parents Player of the Year' after a superb year of try scoring and try saving tackling.

The award for Players Player of the Year rounded off the trophies for 2015 and was received by Josh Swindley who has been a leader on the field in every way. His tackle busting carries down the middle and his crunching tackles have led the way for the team and inspired his team mates every week.

We now look forward to resting throughout November before returning to training early in December.
