From the off West Bank's destructive defence rattled the champion visitors in the 1st round of the BARLA National Cup.
Both teams were tackling hard and the conditions meant possession changed hands swiftly but when the Bears did manage to control the ball some sublime passing resulted in two magnificent trys.
After 15 minutes, wide passing from David Jones and Liam Barlow saw Lee Holland shoot over in the corner. Matty Murphy converted from the touchline.
Jones instigated the next score when his long pass allowed Luke Willings to ship the ball quickly for newly wed Tom Roberts to cross.
West Bank's defence was outstanding for the rest of the half keeping the 10 nil lead intact at the break.
The Bank dominated the opening minutes of the second stanza but after 10 minutes Batley took advantage of a bouncing ball to narrow the gap.
West Bank were undaunted and hit almost immediately when Dean French took another Jones ball to dummy his way across. Murphy added the extras.
The game was in the Bears control now and Ryan Bates was unstoppable when he burst onto a Ste McDermott pass for Murphy to convert.
With 5 minutes left Jones appeared to have gone the wrong way under the sticks but having realised he'd taken the wrong option he changed direction and fired a 30 metre pass for Roberts to take desperate defenders over the line for the coup de grace.
West Bank had superb performances all over the pitch but Ryan Bates was pushed hard as Man of the Match by Jones and Eddie McAdam.
