Following the postponement of the weather effected season opener at Thatto the Bears hit the ground running following a stunning come from behind win over a very strong looking Haydock.
A punishing opening 30 minutes saw both sides repel some fierce running with the Bank well served by Jack Murphy, Ryan Bates, Luke Willings, Karl Glover and the welcome return after injury of Lloyd Hankin.
It took a freak score to break the deadlock and Ste Jones, for the visitors, took advantage of a wicked deflection to dot the ball down. Then with one of the few flowing moves of the half Jones finished strongly in the corner. Jones converted both to give Haydock a deserved 12-0 lead.
Matters could easily have gotten much worse for the homeside but indiscipline gave the Bank field position as the half came to an end and the man on a mission, Dave Jones, threw an enormous dummy and his swallow dive and Ste Curphey's conversion left the half time score as 12-6 to the Warriors.
The start of the 2nd stanza saw West Bank repel Haydock easily but joined up rugby was at a premium and it took a determined effort from close range from Ste McDermott to take advantage of a Jones inside ball to level the scores. Haydock had a man dismissed in the moments following and another Jones effort created room for McDermott to romp over to put the Bears into the lead.
A determined 30 yard bust from Ryan Bates saw him draw the fullback and Willings did the rest from 20 metres to finish off the game. Matty Murphy converted all three second half scores.
Ryan Bates was West Bank M.o.M.
West Bank are at Heysham Atoms next week.
