West Bank Bears U10s welcomed Saddleworth Rangers to Bear Park on Sunday morning in the last game of the 2017 season.
The return fixture earlier this year had saw both teams go head to head throughout the game with the Bears managing to take victory on that occasion on a tiny pitch by just 1 try.
But today was always going to be different as the young Widnesians were focused on recording their 21st victory of the season, giving them a 100% record.
The Bears started superbly and were quickly a try up after outstanding work up the middle from the forwards.
This was to be the tone for the entire first half as the travelling Rangers were left in shock at the ferocity of the Bears defence and the speed and power of the Bears attack.
Saddleworth just couldnt get into the game as West Bank were in total control, sticking superbly to their attacking sets and marching their opponents backwards towards their own try line.
A 28 - 0 halftime scoreline represented the dominance of the home side but the parents on the touchline could sense there was more to come in the second half.
As with the 1st half, West Bank started quickly and scored early on, but to their surprise the Saddleworth players began to show some fighting spirit, putting the Bears under pressure.
A 10 minute spell of the 2nd half saw a see-saw battle with desperate defence from both sides keeping the scoreboard still.
But as the game came to a close, the big Rangers pack tired and the young Bears found their second wind to finish in style, with 2 more well worked tries to give a final score of 46 - 4, West Bank U10s biggest win of the season.
Every player was superb today and played their part in an emphatic victory which gave them their unbeaten record for the season.
Try scorers were Kian McGann (3), Rueben Mafi (2), Josh Swindley, Billy Keeley, Lucas Hendry.
Conversions were kicked by Harvey Bennett, Harry Hughes, Rueben Mafi, Michael Lawton, Ciaran Whyment, Declan Roberts, Riley Webster.
No man of the match award was given today as the team were awarded a trophy for their outstanding unbeaten season.
