Curse of the Opposition Late Goal Strikes Again

The home side's pitch was still unplayable and Bridgford 's Regatta Way was hence the venue for this clash. After months of dire winter weather, nature decided to overlook spring and move on immediately to summer, with the game mostly being played in warm sunshine. Borrowash started off brightly with Joseph Turner quickly forcing a finger tip save from goalkeeper, Sam Clark. From the resultant corner Turner then glanced a header wide. The shape of the game slowly changed with Bridgford creating more of the chances. A Ronaldo style overhead kick by Jaylee Hodgson ended up with the his own captain Tom Hall needing treatment rather than a goal! The chances kept coming, Hodgson failed to score from a 1 on 1 with the Borrowash goalkeeper and then Jack Gray got behind the Borrowash defence but miscontrolled the ball on his chest missing the opportunity for a clear strike on goal. In the 35th minute, Will Heath had a 20 yard shot tipped over the bar. A great run by the Bridgford right back Rico Rumusange saw him dribble to the by-line only for his pulled back cross to somehow elude 3 or 4 Bridgford attackers. As half time approached, Borrowash launched an attack of their own. Out of the blue Jack Collier hit a spectacular dipping 30 yard strike into the top corner giving Clark no chance.
The second half started with Bridgford again on the front foot with Akim Akinbinu making some lively runs down the left. The Borrowash defenders were desperately throwing themselves in the path of Bridgford attacks. On 3 occasions the game had to be stopped after players were left poleaxed by shots which hit them on the head! The game moved into the last 20 minutes. Hodgson had a header cleared of the line and then Tomi Jaiyeola had a penalty appeal turned down after he appeared to be tripped in the area. In the 80th minute, Bridgford got a deserved equaliser when Ross Haig received the ball outside the right hand side of the box, shimmied round a defender and firmly placed the ball into the bottom left of goal. West Bridgford pressed for the winner. They didn't want the game to end and with the referee adding on a surprising amount of additional time it was beginning to look like it wouldn't.
Then in the 6th minute of added on time Bridgford were denied what looked like a clear foul and Borrowash broke away for Louis Danvers to tuck home the winner. With a congested end of season fixture list coming up Bridgford need all players available as often as possible.
Finally and most importantly, best wishes from all the West Bridgford FC community to our legendary, usual match reporter and Director of Football, John Burns who is rather unwell and in hospital at the moment.
