Former Walsall and Old Hill Captain Dannyjo Cox has made the winter switch to Sandwell Park where he grew up as a youth cricketer in the 90s.
Cox who also had 3 years playing National Counties Cricket for Herefordshire returns to the club with a wealth of cricket experience in the Bham League as well as with MCC and other Rep teams. Aged 30 its a real coup for the club to follow up the signing of Tim Maxfield with a new look for the 2022 season. Cox who has amassed over 8000 runs in his career will also be a useful stand-in behind the stumps should captain Ian Stevenson be unavailable but its his middle order solidarity (although he has opened the batting in earlier parts of his career) that the club will be looking to benefit from.
Right-handed top order batsman Cox will return to the club where he was nurtured in readiness for the 2022 season with an excitement that he has not felt in some years. Cox said today 'I have had many good years at Old Hill and Walsall but it was always in my minds eye to play at the club that introduced and nurtured me into the game as a kid. I have always loved coming here to play, there is feel of a 'real' cricket club with cricket people and history as well as success. Clearly the club had a difficult year last year but they havent dwelt on it at all, instead they have been ultra pro-active in wanting to steady the ship and thats what I want to be part of as someone who is used to leading. I want to concentrate on my own cricket now and get as many runs as possible but contribute off the field where I can'
Capt Ian Stevenson said ' With Kabir and Kadeer (Ali's) leaving to play elsewhere it was always going to be important to get replacements in that have seen it and done it. Coxy is one of those that has been around the league a long time and knows how to steer a batting order with solid runs and thats just what we need right now. I am looking forward to playing along side him as we look to rebuild with new players and a new perspective.'
More news on player movement is expected soon.
