Chilt had a tricky tie in the Centenary Cup away to Lavant. We went there with a strong squad but were still missing Dan Leppard, Josh Daly, Josh Burns and David Hilditch. Scott Pulling was only able to make the second half. Unfortunately it appears that Matt Dann, Paul McCafferty and Ryan De Gruchy will not be able to play many more games this season due to work commitments.
Chilt started strongly and were 1-0 up within 2 minutes. Craig Pulling scoring from couple of yards after a Tom Rickman shot come cross. Shortly after, Rickman pulled his hamstring and had to go off. This meant an early introduction for Zack Sanderson. Chilt got a second when a Charlie Monaghan free kick was headed by a Lavant player into their own net.
Lavant started to get into the game and scored excellent goal when Cavaney scored a wonderful volley from a deep cross. Brooks then scored for Lavant with a well worked team goal. 2-2 HT.
The pitch started to deteriorate in the second half and the game became a real battle. Jay Newton came on and displayed some nice touches on his debut. Scott Pulling entered the game on the right of midfield and his excellent volleyed cross was met first time by Tom Reeves and Chilt took the lead 3-2. With just over 5 minutes remaining, Lavant had a good shout for a penalty turned down when the ball hit Scott Wolters on the arm. Lavant actually scored from the resultant corner and it seemed there would be extra time.
However, Charlie Monaghan had other ideas. He picked up the ball 30 yards from goal and sent a phenomenal drive into the top corner. Surely goal of the season! Chilt played out the final few minutes and now look forward to the next round where they face either Henfield or Angmering Seniors.
