Match Report

WCFC started the season with a difficult away trip to Lavant. In the 2014-2015 season Lavant had defeated Chilt three times and we knew it was going to be a tough game.

The game was played on the top pitch due to an event on the Lavant village green.

WCFC manager Keith Tomsett informed the squad prior to kick off that club captain Scott Wolters will be away for long periods of the season due to work commitments. This meant that vice captain Scott Pulling will take the arm band for the majority of the season. A good decision in the eyes of all the West Chilt squad.

Chilt took an early lead through a Gary Weedon header following an excellent set piece delivery from Scott Pulling. Lavant soon equalised from a corner kick with a somewhat fortuitous sliced finish. Lavant then had a chance to take the lead from the penalty spot, however, the penalty was sent wide of the goal. Shortly after this, a great counter attacking goal from Lavant enabled them to take the lead, 2-1. It wasn't long before Chilt were level, Ash Hills' long range shot was tipped onto the bar and Craig Pulling calmly slotted home. With half time looming, Chilt took the lead from a corner kick when Ash Hills connected sweetly to Charlie Monaghan's excellent delivery. 3-2 Chilt at half time.

Chilt scored shortly after half time, this time Ryan De Gruchy scoring a very good header from another Monaghan corner kick. It was soon 5-2 when Monaghan slotted from the penalty spot, after Craig Pulling was fouled. Lavant changed their system after this and the game became very stretched. Lavant scored to make it 5-3 and there were a few nervous moments for Chilt. However, David Hilditch played a great channel ball to Hills who was able to make it 6-3.

Overall, a great performance and a good win to start the season. It is great to have a fit again Craig Dawson back in the team and David Hilditch had his best game in a Chilt shirt after returning to us this season. However, the two stand out performances were from the debutants, Ash Hills and Josh Burns. It was a tight call but M.O.M went to Hills.

Chilt were missing Wolters, Ashley (injured), McCafferty (unavailable), Daly (unavailable), Leppard (unavailable) and Charlie Reeves (unavailable). So there is definitely competition for places this season.
