Chilt went into this game looking for their fourth league victory of the season, however, we were only able to get one point from a difficult and sometimes frustrating afternoon.
Chilt were once again missing a lot of regulars, with Matt Dann, Sean Holt, Ryan De Gruchy, Scott Wolters, Paul McCafferty, Ryan Ashley and Charlie Monaghan all unavailable. Craig Dawson deputised again in goal and I am sure he will keep reminding us of the two clean sheets he has had in consecutive weeks.
The first half was mostly a tight affair. However, Gary Weedon nearly broke the deadlock when he beat one central defender but then the Newtown Villa GK managed to grab the ball from the feet of Weedon as he attempted to round the GK. A superb piece of goalkeeping. Shortly after, Josh Burns made a great run into the box and when the ball was squared to him 8 yards out it looked like Chilt would take the lead. However, a slight bobble and he could only watch agonisingly as the ball hit the bar. Badger-Clark for Newtown had one half chance but shot wide when put in down the channel. 0-0 HT.
The second half was very similar with very few chances created by either team. Craig Dawson pulled off one very good save and Chilt failed to really test the Newtown GK.
Newtown worked extremely hard and defended in numbers. They were very well organised and if they apply similar tactics throughout the season they will not concede too many goals.
M.O.M - Josh Burns
So a good start to the season, we are still unbeaten and have taken 10 points from a possible 12. With the number of players we have had unavailable over the first 4 games we should be really pleased with how we have done.
Next week we are at home to Holbrook in the Centenary Cup.
