WCFC 3-2 Upper Beeding FC

Intent on hitting the ground running, Chilt instead awoke from their slumbers after 30 minutes to find themselves two down. Upper Beeding’s first came from a poorly defended cross, which was allowed to bounce in the Chilt area, before being nodded home at the far post. The visitors second, an equally poorly defended corner, was rammed home, the Beeding player reacting far quicker to a loose ball than the Chilt defence.

Stung into action, Chilt finally got their passing game going and their wide players forward, and on one such attack Gary Weedon outstripped the Beeding defence before being felled in the penalty area. Up stepped Craig Pulling to send the Beeding keeper the wrong way from the spot and Chilt were back in the game.

With a mountain to climb as Upper Beeding were still threatening the Chilt goal, it was increasingly looking a lost cause until Pulling crossed from the left for Weedon to out-jump the Beeding keeper to level the score. Now the home side could sense the points might be there’s and so it proved when Dan Leppard squared the ball for Pulling to curl a delightful left footer into the top corner.

How the home crowd went wild!! And what a relief summed up the Chilt Manager. We were not at our best today but the last hour of this game might prove to be the most important 60 minutes we play this season. To have gained 3 points from being two down on a day when all the top teams were playing each other is inspirational and will hopefully give us a massive confidence boost as we enter the business end of the season.
