First Team

The first team were involved in three games this week and picked up a win and two draws. Sam Frith starred with 56 runs and Andy Nisbet with 4 wickets as Westgate beat Heysham by seven runs in the Division 1 T20 competition on Wednesday (Scorecard here). On Saturday the side had a rain affected draw at Bolton le Sands. Alex Briggs top scored on 45* from just 18 balls as the side declared on 173-5 from just 22 overs. Bolton le Sands then posted 55-3 from 14 overs before bad light stopped play. The scorecard is available here. Today Westgate picked up nine points in a winning draw at home to league leaders Warton. Westgate posted a total of 178-8 from 45 overs. Andy Hill top scored
with 66 along with a brilliant 65 runs from Alex Briggs. Zak Buchanan took figures of 5-22 in the second innings as Warton posted 85-7 from 45 overs. A full report and scorecard is available here.

Second Team

Dave Hannigan's second XI faced Coniston at home on Saturday and the game ended in a rain affected draw. Coniston posted a quick fire 179-5 as they declared after 31 overs, and Westgate scored 26-0 from five overs before the game was abandoned due to rain. Junior sides

Westgate U13s were in action against Shireshead's youngsters on Thursday night at Cross Hill Park. Joel Frith and Rory Briggs both retired on 25 not out as the hosts posted an impressive 103-3 from 20 overs, but Shireshead knocked off the total in just under 19 overs at the expense of 2 wickets which came from Dan Legg (1-24) and Rory Briggs (1-11).

The U11s were in action on Sunday morning at home to Heysham. Heysham posted a total of 279, with Westgate's Marcus Palamountain (2), debutant Joe Bradshaw (1) and Charlie Higson (1) taking wickets. Westgate posted a total of 269 in reply so lost by nine runs. Crucially Westgate lost nine wickets, but skipper Jim Craig and Jack Liptrot almost pulled off an improbable victory with a massive partnership worth 32 runs. There were also good contributions from Rohan Bannister, Isaac Phelan, Jack Johnson, Joe Bradshaw and Yusuf Dalaman with the bat in a game which featured three debutants: Jack Johnson, Matthew Bradshaw and Joe Bradshaw.
