WEEKLY ROUNDUP: Just one loss for Westgate in five games in week just gone

Westgate suffered just one loss out of five games in the week just gone.

1st XI

Dylan Conroy took the Man of the Match award in a four-wicket defeat in the Division 1 Hackney & Leigh T20 cup final against Carnforth at Sedgwick on Monday.

The all-rounder starred with bat and ball, scoring 53 from 55 balls and taking 4-14.

Westgate batted first after winning the toss and scored 106-8 from 20 overs. Stan Rich (4-6) did the damage for Carnforth with the ball.

Carnforth reached the target with eight balls remaining at the expense of six wickets. Opener Chris Parry (41*) carried his bat.

On Saturday, the first team beat Trimpell by 113 runs at Cross Hill Park.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Westgate were all out for 162 with Andreas Arestidou (44) top scoring. Rob Cope (3-34) and Michael Bland (3-41) were the top wicket takers.

In response, Trimpell were 49-9 all out. Muhammad Patel (23) top scored.

2nd XI

Freddie Whatmuff claimed a season best 6-18 that included a hat-trick as Westgate beat Sedgwick A by eight wickets away from home on Saturday and secured their place in the Division 2 play-off final in two weeks.

Sedgwick captain Ian Wilson won the toss and elected to bat first and his side were all out for 83 from 37.3 overs. Taylor Finch (14) top scored.

In response, Westgate reached the target in 16 overs at the expense of just two wickets. Sam Frith (38*) top scored, while Matthew Wright (1-25) and Chris Norman (1-26) took the wickets.

3rd XI

Matthew Bradshaw scored his highest score in senior cricket as he helped Westgate 3s to a point in a losing draw at Bolton Le Sands on Sunday.

Westgate captain Peter Wilson won the toss and elected to bowl first, and Bolton Le Sands posted a first innings total of 131-9 from 40 overs. M.Brickles (43) top scored, while Dave Edwards (3-25) was the pick of the bowlers.

In reply, the visitors scored 79-7 with Bradshaw (17) top scoring. A.Carruthers (2-16) was the pick of the bowlers.

Under 13s

Westgate's under 13s became joint winners of the South Division after a 43-run win over Shireshead on Friday evening.

They will face Morecambe in a play-off final at Cross Hill Park on Friday 11 September.

Westgate batted first and scored 85-8 from 20 overs, with Matthew Bradshaw (21) top scoring. Rowan Yates (2-6) was the pick of the bowlers.

In response, Shireshead were all out for 42 from 15.5 overs. S.Collinson (8) top scored, while wickets were shared between Jack Edwards (2-0), Joe Jones (2-5), Marcus Palamountain (1-3), Jack Johnson (1-3), Charlie Higson (1-8) and Usayed Islam (1-9).

NEXT WEEK

The first team face Bare at home on Saturday in their last game of the Division 1b season while the seconds travel to Holme.

The thirds face Shireshead 3s on Sunday at home while the under 13s are at home to Morecambe on Friday in the Southern section play-off (5:30pm start).
