WEEKLY ROUNDUP: Positive on the whole for Westgate this week

Westgate had a positive week on the whole as they won three of the five games they were involved in.

1st XI

Westgate continued their unbeaten run this season with an 83-run win at Heysham on Saturday.

The visitors won the toss and batted first and scored 162-8 in 45 overs. Craig Buchanan (69) top scored, while A.Powers (5-41) was the pick of the bowlers.

In response, Heysham were all out for 79 with D.Keegan (37) top scoring. Andy Nisbet (5-22) was the pick of the bowlers for Westgate.

2nd XI

Sam Frith, Jack Huntington and Jacob Vaughan all made valuable contributions with bat and ball as Westgate A secured a 28-run win over Division 2b title rivals Coniston.

In Westgate's innings, Frith top scored with a useful 62 runs as they posted 170-9 from 45 overs. Ted Simpson (5-40) was the pick of the bowlers.

Coniston were all out for 142 from 41.1 overs and Huntington (5-29) and Vaughan (4-28) took all but one of the wickets. Visiting captain Bob Simpson (59) top scored with the bat.

3rd XI

Morecambe spinners Joe Singleton (4-6) and Isaac Atherton (4-20) took four wickets each as they caused maximum damage in a comfortable 10-wicket win over Westgate 3s today.

Westgate captain Peter Wilson won the toss and elected to bat first, and the visitors were all out for 48 from 30 overs. Freddie Whatmuff (23) top scored.

Morecambe reached the total in 14.2 overs as Kevin Demain (26*) and Benji Orr (24*) carried them home.

Under 11s

The under 11s finished their season joint top of the league with an 18-run win over Shireshead this morning.

Westgate batted first and scored 303-7. The partnerships were Bobby Barry and William Enright (32), Joseph Conroy and Fred Manning (11), Lakshya Ahlumaua and Rido Hassan (14), Archie McFall and Jake Lightfoot (18) and Alfie Craig and Freddie Abel (28).

Shireshead made 285-8, and wickets were shared between Enright (3-14), Conroy (1-7), Barry (1-21) and Ahlumaua (1-22).

Under 9s

The under 9s finished their season with a defeat to Torrisholme on Monday.

Torrisholme batted first and scored 237. Jessica Mayor (4), Riley Johnson (2), Ava-Rose Phelan (1), Finley Needham (1) and Joseph Conroy (1) took the wickets.

In response, Westgate scored 224. The partnerships were George Korab and Jessica Mayor (0), Ava-Rose Phelan and Megan Hindson (-10), Finley Needham and Riley Johnson (22) and Ruben Pinnington and Joseph Conroy (12).

Next week

The first team are involved in the Division 1 T20 Cup Final at Sedgwick tomorrow (2pm start) when they face Carnforth, and then they're at home to Trimpell on Saturday (1:30pm).

The second team travel to Sedgwick A on Saturday, while the thirds travel to Bolton Le Sands on Sunday.

The under 13s and under 16s both finish their season against Shireshead in their respective age groups on Wednesday. The 13s are at home and the 16s away.
