WEEKLY ROUNDUP: Weather affects three of seven Westgate games in frustrating week

Westgate only picked up one win out of four completed games across all its teams this week.

1st XI

Dylan Conroy scored an unbeaten 87 as Westgate and Shireshead shared six points each with bad weather ending the game prematurely with just over half a game played.

Shireshead captain Dave Jack won the toss and put Westgate into bat first and they scored 171-8 from 45 overs. Dylan Conroy top scored, while J.Smethurst (2-16) and Jack (2-39) were the top wicket takers.

The visitors didn't score in their reply, but Sam Conroy (1-0) managed to remove T.Jacques (0) in the first over and when the sides came off for rain after only nine balls, Shireshead were 0-1.

3rd XI

Carnforth 3s earned a comfortable eight-wicket win over Westgate 3s at Cross Hill Park today.

Carnforth won the toss and put Westgate into bat first. The game was reduced to 30 overs a side and started just before 1pm. Westgate scored 84-8 with Robbie Green (17) top scoring. Debutant Miles Bowen (3-19) was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors.

Carnforth reached the target in 18 overs at the expense of two wickets. Cameron Holmes (49*) was the top scorer, while Saj Islam (2-15) was the only Westgate player to take wickets.

U16s

Westgate's game at Morecambe on Wednesday was abandoned due to bad light.

Westgate batted first and scored 144-2. Joel Frith (34*) and Freddie Whatmuff (31*) both retired. J.Holmes (1-11) and Jacob Orr (1-19) took the wickets.

In response, Morecambe were 85-1 from 15 overs before bad light stopped play. B.Dobson (32*) retired, while Freddie Whatmuff (1-15) took the only wicket.

U13s

Westgate under 13s tied with Morecambe on Thursday evening and shared the points as a result.

Westgate batted first and finished on 85-2 from 16 overs. Marcus Palamountain (28*) and Ollie Whatmuff (25*) both retired.

Morecambe finished on 85-4, as Lawson Carr (2-10) claimed a dramatic wicket in the final ball of the game to prevent the visitors from getting the win.

F.Ghumman (27*) and Benji Orr (25*) both retired, while Carr took the most wickets for Westgate.

Under 11s

Westgate's under 11s lost by 23 runs to Torrisholme on Sunday morning.

Westgate batted first and scored 243-8. The partnerships were Hamansh Manjare and Lakshya (1), Bobby Barry and William Enright (-1), Jake Lightfoot and Archie McFall (25) and Joe Craig and Freddie Abel (18).

In response, Torrisholme made 266-6. Manjare (1-9), Abel (1-3) and Enright (1-9) were the wicket takers.

U9s

Westgate under 9s beat Bolton Le Sands by 31 runs at Cross Hill Park on Sunday morning.

Bolton Le Sands won the toss and chose to bat first and they scored 247-5 with wickets shared between Logan, Riley Knowles, Alfie Craig, Jack Green and Joseph Conroy supported by some excellent fielding by Archie, Wilson and Riley Johnson.

In reply Westgate posted 278-4 with some excellent batting from Riley Knowles and Archie (10), Jack & Logan (34), Riley Johnson & Wilson (8 off 3) and Alfie Craig & Joseph Conroy (34 off 3).

Next week

Westgate's first team face Heysham away from home, while the seconds host Coniston. The third team travel to Morecambe thirds on Sunday.

The under 9s and under 11s have their final games of the season. The under 9s face Torrisholme away tomorrow (Monday) and the under 11s host Shireshead on Sunday.

The under 13s and 16s are without a game.
