Shireshead captain Dave Jack won the toss and put Westgate into bat first and they scored 171-8 from 45 overs. Dylan Conroy top scored, while J.Smethurst (2-16) and Jack (2-39) were the top wicket takers.

The visitors didn't score in their reply, but Sam Conroy (1-0) managed to remove T.Jacques (0) in the first over and when the sides came off for rain after only nine balls, Shireshead were 0-1.

Opener Garry Tattersall (4) got Westgate off to a great start from ball one with a four off his legs but he fell victim to a yorker from Smethurst in the second over and was out bowled.

There was little difference to the dismissal of Craig Buchanan (1) in the fourth over as he also fell victim to Smethurst and was out bowled.

Captain Andy Hill (8) and Dylan Conroy put on a useful 21 runs for the third wicket, but then Hill was dismissed by a yorker from Dave Jack in the ninth over leaving the score 27-3.

The key partnership came between Dylan Conroy and Chris Carter (19) as they put a halt to Shireshead's momentum and made 55 for the fourth wicket before Carter was bowled by J.Cunnington (1-44) in the 25th over.

Westgate added a further 89 in the final 20 overs, and during this time Dylan Conroy made his second fifty of the season. He went on to make 87 not out, in what was an unusually mature innings with it coming from 97 balls. He usually scores quicker than that!

Andreas Arestidou made a useful 16, while Matthew Hannigan made (4) and Jack Huntington made an impressive 24 from 31 balls including four fours.

Sam Conroy (1) faced the final over and failed to score in the last six balls and was run out at the end meaning Westgate finished on 171-8.

There was a delay to the start of the second innings due to rain, but they did get underway in light rain. Sam Conroy removed Jacques caught behind by Carter three balls into the innings.

Zak Buchanan (0-0) only bowled three balls before heavy rain returned. There was a 45-minute wait to see if the rain would stop but after an inspection by the umpires they decided to abandon the game.
