By Chris Hill
Captain Andy Hill won the toss and elected to bat, and he led the recovery top scoring with 71, while Chris Carter (56) also surpassed 50 taking the hosts to a score of 176-8 from 45 overs. Muhammad Patel (3-32) was the top wicket taker.
In response, Trimpell were all out for 77 with Matthew Hannigan (3-18) the top wicket-taker.
With Stu Burrow (2 for 24) and Scott Sparks (1 for 15) bowling hostile spells, the decision to bat first looked a poor one as the score was 12 for 3. Hill then made the decision look good as coming in as the fourth man, at first carefully and then more attackingly in tandem with Chris Carter (56 with 9 x 4) put on 122 to take the score to a respectable total.
Hannigan contributed a useful 17 and Hill made a classy 71 with eight fours and one six.
Patel managed to keep the score respectable as he bagged 3 for 32 in a tidy 7 over spell and Mark Baldwin performed well behind the stumps with three victims.
Trimpell's reply was soon in tatters at 24 for 6, the damage caused by Zak Buchanan 5 - 5 - 0 - 1, the fiery Sam Conroy (2 for 13) and evergreen Andy Nisbet (2 for 20).
Double figure scores from Stu Burrow, Scott Sparks, James McDermid and Steve Beniston slowed down the Westgate march before speedster Hannigan completed a fine all round match and closed out the game as he took 3 for 18 and the victory was complete with more than 15 overs remaining.
