Let's hope the weather holds out.

Westhoughton Lions Under 7s will be travelling to Salford tomorrow (Saturday, 9 April 2016) to take part in Salford Red Devil’s Community Day - a rugby festival that will celebrate all the hard work being done in the North West rugby league community to grow the game.

After a couple of hours spent honing their skills at the festival, the Lions’ Under 7s will then watch Salford Reds battle it out against current Super League Champions, Leeds Rhinos at the AJ Bell Stadium. Of course, watching how the professionals play would be a treat for any young rugby player but imagine how excited you’d feel if you were told that you were going to take part in a parade on the pitch at half time. Cue Westhoughton Lions Under 7s…

“I’m excitedly!” said Kian, who got into the festival mood early this week by watching BBC’s The Rugby League Show before school. Ethan, Will and Jake summed up their thoughts in one word: “Excited!” and Nathan couldn’t quite believe that he would be going on the pitch as well as watching the match. Lastly, Daniel said: “I’m looking forward to it but I really hope Leeds don’t win.” Obviously, feelings about the Warrior’s defeat in last year’s Super League Grand Final still run deep.

Mark Fairclough, Westhoughton Lions Under 7s coach said: “As coach, I am super proud of the progress made so far. We have played against teams that played all of last season and have not only stood up to them in defence but scored tries. This festival will be a great opportunity to improve on the skills they have already learnt and most importantly we have will have FUN!”

If your son or daughter is in year 1 or year 2 at school and would like to give rugby league a try, come and have a go at The Den, Saturdays 10 -11am or Thurdays 6 -7pm.
