However, in the first few minutes, a familiar picture presented itself.
A start all too reminiscent of the previous game against Olympia left the Eagles trailing 3:6 after just under 15 minutes.
With some switches in defense, though, the home team managed to turn the tide over the next 15 minutes to take the lead.
Backed by stellar goalkeeping from Alex Pechlivanis, the Eagles found their way into the game, allowing just 2 goals in 15 minutes, and took a narrow 10:8 lead into half time.
The second half remained a close affair for a good further 15 minutes as Brighton continued to find their line player and former Eagle Sam Crocker.
With 15 more minutes on the clock, however, yet another adjustment to the defense by Eagles coach Zoran Lukasc brought the spark needed to jump ahead.
After leading the game by just 2, the score at 19:17 in the Eagles' favour, the second half finished as the first one had. Again, the Eagles allowed only 2 more goals and scored a further 6, themselves. With the final whistle, the first win of the season was secured, the final result standing at 25:19.
Having secured a hard fought victory, a happy Eagles coach noted that his team took on not just the physical challenge from the Brighton side, but the mental one, as well:
"It was a mentally difficult game for us because it was a 'must-win game' and this reflected on the confidence of the players, especially at the start of the match. But as the game was moving they started to play better and better and fought together as a team and this resulted in a great first win in the season. This will give us the necessary confidence to continue like this in the season. Big congratulations to the players, they deserved this with their work and dedication from the first to the last player!"
The next game will be played away against Nottingham on the 20th of October.
The Eagles are hoping to build on the success of the weekend against a young and confident team that have established themselves in the top tier over the past few years.
