West London Eagles received NEM Hawks from Manchester in their home court in Barking. Unfortunately, the early start of the season meant that a number of players were on holidays or had other commitments and some of the ladies had to play in different positions than usual.
Kiki led the team in the centre with Lucie and Amy by her sides, Anais and Kasia in the wings and Maria in the line. Lucie opened the score board with a great pass from Kiki.
The Eagles defence was broken down by the Hawk’s line player providing space to their play maker who is very fast and managed to score from six metres. Also a few of the Eagles goals were disallowed due to extra steps. As a consequence, the first half ended with poor scoring from the Eagles and Hawks had a big advantage, leading 20-5.
During the second half one of our Eaglets had her debut, Zoé Lacour, who is only 16 years old. Paul Dempsey decided to give Zoé her chance first as left wing, her natural position in the junior’s division, and then as right wing. Whilst Zoe missed her first couple of attempts at goal, Zoé wasn't nervous and scored two goals, one after a windmill on her opponent and the second on a 9-metre bounce. She held her own in defence, intercepted some balls and created a couple of opportunities in attack. Despite the efforts of the Eagles and the great contribution of Zoé the final score was 40-13 for the Manchester team.
