Nine-goal win sees Eagles fly up the Women’s Premier Handball League, but it was far from plain sailing against their northern visitors.

Following a cruel defeat to London GD two weeks earlier, West London Eagles bounced back into winning ways with a 25:16 win at home against Peninsula.

Saturday’s success makes it three wins in four matches for the Eagles, who jumped into the top half of the Women’s Premier Handball League for the first time this season.

After a cagey start, which saw the teams trade goals, Eagles took control with Sunniva firing in five of the team’s opening nine goals, while Zoe punished the opposition with her speed on fast breaks.

Full credit to the guests from Merseyside, however, who stepped up at both ends of the court to cut the deficit to just two goals, 12:10, by half-time.

And it was Peninsula who came flying out of the blocks after the break, scoring three quick goals to take an unexpected lead.

However, Eagles did not panic at this crucial period of the match and went on to produce their best period of attack in the match.

The home side moved the ball well and made full use of their attacking threat across the court with five different players scoring the next seven goals, highlighted by Anne and Victoria enjoying plenty of success in the back court and Maria creating more opportunities on the line.

At the other end of the court, goalkeeper Anette and her defensive wall completely shut down the Peninsula attack, laying the foundation for an impressive nine-goal victory, rounded-off by fine finishes by Maddie and Anne.
