Eagles team featured 5 players having their debut for West London Eagles as the team builds on last years success but with many of that team now moved up to U19.
The match against Sevenoaks was a close and gritty encounter from the first minute to the last and Eagles had to work hard to stay in contention and were always one or two goals behind throughout the first half. An excellent performance in goal from Rhiannon Stewart kept us in the match in defence while Diana Fartais kept chipping away with goals to keep us in contention. One down at half time quickly turned to 3 down but Fartais started to find her range and powered in shot after shot to pull us right back in it. Ably supported by right back Tyla Sartain, Eagles gradually pulled back to just one but only after Fartais was badly fouled, leading to a broken tooth. Up stepped Isabella Bujosa- Armora to score two great goals at the death to earn us a well fought draw and a point at 19-19. Fartais finished with 10 goals but coach Mel Chowns seated man of the match to Stewart in goal, just ahead of Fartais.
Next up was the inexperienced Chelsea playing their first matches in the national competition. This was a great chance for Eagles to build confidence and for the newer, younger players to work on their skills without too much pressure. It was a real opportunity for our youngest player Emma Thomann to get in on the act and she rattled in four goals. The team were dominating in all areas and the game was wrapped up after the first half, going in 19-2 ahead. The second half saw an onslaught of fast breaks with goalkeeper Stewart feeding Sartain on the break and she bagged herself 11 goals with Fartais again delivering with 9 more goals and Bujosa- Armora having fun with 5 more goals. Eagles ran out winners with an excellent 29-4 victory.
Coach Mel Chowns was delighted with her young and inexperienced squad to fight hard for each other in that testing first match and then to show great improvement in the second match.
Team: Rhiannon Stewart, Emma Thomann, Isabella Bujosa- Armora, Lorena Ianau, Simran Mankoo, Tyla Sartain & Diana Sartain.
