Lindsey Kirton
It is with the greatest sadness that I have to write this. My beautiful Derek passed away very peacefully in hospital late Monday night. We are all bereft with grief but I am so thankful that I got to share 38 years with this wonderful man. I am only just starting to face up to the reality of life without him. For such a quiet man he leaves a huge hole in all our lives. He was and is hugely loved by so many.
Derek played for Westoe for a number of years starting in the late 70s were he quickly established himself as a first team player and when he retired from first team rugby he played and captained the senators for a number of years. He gained county honours and in his first county match he opposed Billy Beaumont who, at the time was the captain of England.
Our condolences to Lindsey and the family.
