Colts manager Raymond Bays admits he despaired when number 8 Michael Thompson, instead of putting the ball wide, went for a solo try from the 22 with scores level at 15-15 in the dying minutes of the National Under-19 Cup second round clash against a dangerous Old Brodleians side at Wood Terrace on Sunday.
Said Raymond: “I wondered what he was thinking of with a wall of defenders between him and the try line and our fast running backs waiting for the ball.
“But amazingly he just broke through tackle after tackle to touchdown between the posts and so win the game. So I’ll just reprimand him gently!”
