Westoe’s 2nd team finished their pre-season on a high after defeating a Consett First Team Squad 34-14

In a game of 4 x 20 minute quarters, Westoe took a strong 2nd team to Consett for their final preparations before starting their CANDY League Division 2 commitments next week. Playing with a strong following wind, Westoe used the ball well in the first quarter, never giving Consett a chance to attack and running some training ground moves to their advantage to release Centres Mark Wilson and Reggie Fasa with positive results.

With the back row quick around the park and the front 5 holding their own in the scrums, Westoe had a good platform to work from and finished the first quarter 2 trys up through scorers Jon Irvine and Mark Wilson.

The 2nd quarter brought mass changes to the team which disrupted play and the home side used the strong following wind to positive affect but the Westoe defence held fast to ensure the period finished pointless for both sides.

Westoe had a dominant 3rd quarter, scoring 4 trys from Jon Irvin (2 to complete his hatrick), Craig Olugbode and Callum Macguigan The team put together some good moves and the forwards made some driving runs and used their pace around the pitch to good effect.

All replacements made a positive impact, and with the First Team Manager and Coaches watching on, they can’t fail to be impressed by the strength in depth the club finds itself this season in comparison to seasons past.

Consett had the better of the final quarter, finishing 2 trys up after some tired defending saw the home team touch down in the corners.

The Development Team were far superior to last week, and with the league starting shortly, the team is full of confidence of a good season ahead.
