Batting first, a strong first 30 overs (106-3) was laid out by losing 5 wickets for 7 runs. Hussain and Gardiner’s stand of 57 in 11 overs saved the day and West finished on 174.
West’s defence was built on wickets. The early onslaught from Mughal (30 from 18 balls) put West in trouble then sensible batting from EK kept them ahead of the rate. It was only after Farndale bowled Sheikh (83-4 from 21 overs) that EK lost the advantage. However, they were still in the game until a similar collapse to the first innings, losing 4 wickets for 7 runs in 29 balls. The bowlers all bowled a straight line and were rewarded with LBWs. The tail could not wag.
West recorded a comfortable victory after behind behind for chunks of the game. A strong performance.
