A tremendously close game was played at Bothwell Castle Policies as Bothwell hosted Partick in 50 over League business today.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Bothwell got off to a steady start until a few early wickets started to fall, most notably that of their opener on 19 by 13 year old seamer Robbie McCallum. Generally we kept the batting in check aided by a couple of quick wickets and soon Bothwell were 53-3. However up step a tremendous 100+ partnership from Niall McLeod and Sandeep Bawa and despite a flurry of late wickets, Bothwell posted a creditable but gettable total of 207 on a good batting pitch.
And that is how it looked as Messrs Clarke and Graham got off to a measured start posting 63 for the first wicket at a steady pace. Then catastrophe as we went from 63-0 to 69-5 within 5 overs which included a hat trick from Bothwell's Dunne. Thankfully Chris Ross and Pav steadied the ship to put on a well worked 6th wicket partnership of 74 and we were back ahead of the rate. The game however swung back Bothwell's way with their wickets leaving 14 year old keeper Callum Coats to come in at no8. A well worked 52 run 9th wicket partnership with Stuart Brown ensured a nail biting finish with Coats carrying his bat for 26 runs and the total falling just 2 runs short at the end of the 50 overs.
So a cracking game with everything in it. Well done to Bothwell, particularly Niall MacLeod with the bat and Ryan Dunne with the ball.
