for the first-ever league meeting between the first teams.

Head coach Dave Burge will take his Weston-super-Mare 1st XV to Gordano's Caswell Lane ground on Saturday, October 26, 2024, for the first league meeting between the two clubs after the provisional fixture list has been released.

Burge started his playing career as an eight-year-old in Weston's mini section before proceeding through the age groups to the Colts. He made 257 appearances for the first team, including three seasons as Club captain from September 2006.

He then went on to spend seven years at Gordano, starting as forwards coach in 2016 before becoming head coach three years later. During his tenure at Gordano, Burge helped steer them through two promotions to the Regional 2 Severn league – the club's highest-ever level.

Burge was appointed Weston's head coach last April, succeeding former England prop Darren Crompton. However, the season ended with relegation, which has led to the two Clubs meeting in the coming season — the return leg at the Recreation Ground on Saturday, February 1, 2025.

Weston will get their first taste of life in the Regional 2 Tribute Severn league when they face Old Centralians on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Saintbridge Sports Centre. The two sides are not strangers, with their league encounters evenly matched at four games apiece.

Weston-super-Mare's first home game will be the following Saturday against Swindon, who finished last season just above the relegation zone. The Wiltshire side is one of six clubs who will provide new league opposition to the Seasiders this coming season.

Another of the clubs that will provide new league opposition for Weston-super-Mare in the coming season is newly promoted Longlevens, who won the Papa Johns Community Cup Men's Counties 1 Championship final at Twickenham.

The other newcomers for the Seasiders are Stow-on-the-Wold, who have been moved sideways from the Regional 2 Midland West league, Trowbridge, and Witney, who have been transferred from the Regional 2 South Central league.

Weston-super-Mare will complete their pre-season preparations with a friendly away to Marlborough on Saturday, August 31, 2024, kick-off at 2.30 pm. The Wiltshire side have been given a sideways move to Regional 1 South West.

Weston United will start their Counties 3 Somerset South league campaign on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at home to Castle Cary while, the same day in Counties 4 Somerset South, Weston Athletic will host relegated Burnham-on-Sea 2ndXV.

Clubs have until July 14, 2024, to agree to any date change from the provisional fixture listing.
